PDF up to 20 MB.

Your PDF is checked in this browser and is not uploaded. To complete the certificate chain, the browser may fetch the issuer’s public certificate through our server.

How to verify e-Aadhaar signature on any device

  1. Select e-Aadhaar PDF. Choose the e-Aadhaar PDF you downloaded from UIDAI, on your phone or computer.
  2. Enter password. Type the password, or your name and year of birth and the tool works it out.
  3. Download or print. The signature is checked against the India CCA certificate chain. If it is valid, you get a print-ready copy with a “signature valid” mark.

Why your e-Aadhaar shows a yellow question mark

UIDAI signs every e-Aadhaar with a certificate that leads back to the Controller of Certifying Authorities (CCA) India. Most phone, Mac and browser PDF viewers don’t carry the India CCA root certificates, so they can’t complete that chain and show “Validity unknown” instead. This tool carries those roots and completes the chain for you.

With desktop PDF software

  • Needs a Windows or Mac computer with a desktop PDF reader installed.
  • You download the India CCA root certificates and import them into the certificate store yourself.
  • Not practical on a phone at a photocopy shop.

With this tool

  • Works in the browser on Android, iPhone, iPad, Mac, Windows, Linux and ChromeOS.
  • The certificate chain is checked against India CCA roots built into the tool.
  • Your PDF and password stay in your browser and are not uploaded.
  • Free, with no account and no app to install.

How the e-Aadhaar password is made

The password is the first 4 letters of your name as printed on the Aadhaar, in capitals, followed by your 4-digit year of birth. Spaces are skipped; dots count as characters. A name shorter than 4 letters is used as it is.

Frequently asked questions

Can I verify e-Aadhaar signature on mobile phones (Android / iPhone)?

Yes. The tool runs in your mobile browser on Android phones, iPhones and iPads, with no app to install and no Windows PC or desktop software needed.

Does this work on Mac (macOS), Linux, and Ubuntu without Windows?

Yes. It works in current browsers on macOS, Windows, Linux (including Ubuntu) and ChromeOS.

Why does my e-Aadhaar show a yellow question mark (?) instead of a green tick?

e-Aadhaar PDFs are signed with Government of India PKI (CCA India / UIDAI) certificates. Standard mobile and web PDF viewers do not have India Root Certifying Authority roots in their default trust stores, displaying “Validity unknown” with a yellow question mark (?).

Will an office accept a printout with the green tick?

Some offices ask for an e-Aadhaar printout that shows the signature as valid. The printout from this tool shows a “signature valid” mark after the signature has been checked, but whether it is accepted is decided by the office receiving it. This tool is independent and is not affiliated with UIDAI.

What is the password format for e-Aadhaar PDF? How is it created for different name types?

The password is 8 characters long: the first 4 letters of your Name in CAPITAL letters followed by your 4-digit Year of Birth (e.g. SURE1990 for Suresh Kumar, SAIK1990 for Sai Kumar, P.KU1990 for P. Kumar, RIA1990 for Ria, or OM1985 for Om).

Is my Aadhaar data safe and private?

The check, the password unlock and the print-ready copy all happen in your browser. Your PDF and its password are not uploaded or stored on our servers. To complete the certificate chain, your browser may fetch the issuer’s public certificate through our certificate lookup service, which receives only that certificate’s address.

Is this e-Aadhaar signature verification tool free to use?

Yes. It is free, needs no account and has no limit on checks. The page shows ads.

Can I share the downloaded verified e-Aadhaar PDF digitally?

The verified copy is meant for printing only. Its digital signature is removed so the green tick (✔) shows consistently on paper, which means it can’t be verified again as a digitally signed document. If you need to share your e-Aadhaar digitally, for example by email or by uploading it to a portal, share the original e-Aadhaar PDF downloaded from UIDAI instead.
