Choose a signed PDF

PDF up to 20 MB.

Your PDF is checked in this browser and is not uploaded. To complete the certificate chain, the browser may fetch the issuer’s public certificate through our server.

How to verify digital signatures in any PDF

  1. Select signed PDF file. Choose any digitally signed PDF on your phone, laptop or desktop.
  2. Unlock if password protected. If the document is encrypted, enter its password when asked so the signature can be read.
  3. Download or print. The signer’s certificate chain is checked. If the signature is valid, you get a print-ready copy with a “signature valid” mark.

Signed documents you can check

Any PDF with a standard PKCS#7 or CMS digital signature can be checked. The signature is shown as valid when the signer’s certificate leads to an India CCA root.

  • UIDAI e-Aadhaar and masked Aadhaar PDFs
  • West Bengal e-Ration Card

  • TRACES Form 16, Form 16A and Form 27D

Why PDF viewers show “Validity unknown”

A viewer can only call a signature valid if it can follow the signer’s certificate back to a root certificate it trusts. Most phone and browser viewers don’t carry the India CCA roots that Indian government and DSC signatures lead to, so they stop short and show a question mark.

With desktop PDF software

  • Needs a computer with a desktop PDF reader installed.
  • You find, download and import the right CA certificates into the trust store yourself.
  • Built-in phone viewers still show “Validity unknown”.

With this tool

  • Works in the browser on Android, iPhone, iPad, Mac, Windows, Linux and ChromeOS.
  • Missing intermediate certificates are fetched and the chain is checked against India CCA roots.
  • Your PDF and password stay in your browser and are not uploaded.
  • Free, with no account and no app to install.

Frequently asked questions

Can I verify PDF digital signatures without installing Adobe Acrobat Reader?

Yes. The check runs in your web browser, so you can verify a digitally signed PDF without installing desktop PDF software or configuring certificate stores.

Does this work on mobile phones (Android / iPhone) and Mac (macOS)?

Yes. It works in current browsers on iPhone, iPad, Android, macOS, Windows, Linux (including Ubuntu) and ChromeOS.

Why does my PDF show a yellow question mark (?) or “Validity unknown”?

Standard PDF viewers on phones and web browsers do not have the complete Certifying Authority (CA) root certificate chain pre-installed in their trust store. When the viewer cannot establish a full cryptographic path to a trusted root, it displays “Validity unknown” with a yellow question mark (?).

What kinds of digitally signed documents can I verify?

You can verify any PKCS#7 or CMS digitally signed PDF document, including UIDAI e-Aadhaar, Income Tax Returns (ITR-V), TDS Certificates (Form 16 / 16A), MCA e-Forms, GST Tax Invoices, DigiLocker certificates, West Bengal e-Ration Cards, Class 2/3 DSC signed agreements, tender bids, court affidavits, and many more.

Is it safe to verify confidential or password-protected PDF files?

The check, the password unlock and the print-ready copy all happen in your browser. Your PDF and its password are not uploaded or stored on our servers. To complete the certificate chain, your browser may fetch the issuer’s public certificate through our certificate lookup service, which receives only that certificate’s address.

Is this PDF digital signature verification tool free?

Yes. It is free, needs no account and has no limit on checks. The page shows ads.

Can I share the downloaded verified PDF digitally?

The verified copy is meant for printing only. Its digital signature is removed so the green tick (✔) shows consistently on paper, which means it can’t be verified again as a digitally signed document. If you need to share the document digitally, for example by email or by uploading it to a portal, share the original PDF issued to you instead.
